In the winter, Island Pond is home to many snowmobilers as the town is a focal point for the VAST Trail network. The VAST Trail connects in Island Pond from the north, south and east allowing passage north to the VAST Trail network in Quebec, east to New Hampshire and points south.

The snowmobile season generally opens the fourth week of December and lasts as long as the snow, about the end of March or beginning of April.

Skiing at Burke Mountain Ski Area opens the end of November and lasts into April. Burke Mountain touts a 2000ft vertical drop and a terrain park for the avid skier/snowboarder. At Burke Mountain, you'll also find Burke Mountain Ski Academy that trained 45 olympiads.

In The Spring and Fall

Antiquing, Hunting, Fall Foliage

The foliage in Northern Vermont is especially brilliant due to the number and variety of disiduous trees, most especially, white , yellow and grey birch, sugar and rock maple and beach. The mountains are illuminated in a kailidascope of color that begins with red, then shifts to yellow and then orange. Foliage peaks about the first of October, though begins about the third week of September and lasts till mid October.

Hunting is a native pastime, being native the region. Though the area is called "Moose Country" deer are prevalent, as well. Hunters also hunt partridge and black bear.
