Slope and Trail Report for Northeastern Vermont

A Reminder of the Spring 2015 Season

"Monday, April 13, 2015.  Folks, with the temperature at 65 degrees, the snow is now melting at a good pace.  Most of the VAST Trail was open through this past weekend, however, as of today, the season appears to have drawn to a close.  Thanks for a great year and see you next winter!!"

Snowmobile Clubs in Vermont

"After some exciting weather events a week ago we are happy to report that we survived the January thaw and still have some good riding opportunities available for you!  The best riding at this time is along trails in Washington, Caledonia, Lamoille, Franklin, Essex and Orleans Counties.  These areas were able to maintain the trail base during the thaw a bit better than the southern counties.  The trails in the woods and along high elevation summer logging roads are offering the best conditions, while trails in the fields and valley areas are very thin in terms of snow cover.   Try to stick to trails in the woods if you can! snowmobilepph1.jpg

All trails have a rock solid base, and new snow throughout the week is helping things out a bit in terms of cooling for your machine.  Many clubs have been out grooming in an attempt to get the trails back into shape as best they can.  If you head out and ride you will find some good sections of trail and some that could use more snow cover!  Expect ice at all times, trenches across the trails in some areas where the water ran during the thaw, open water bars, exposed rocks and other hazards.  We are back to early season riding in some areas, while the next mile of trail may seem like mid-winter!  Use caution and common sense and take things slow and you will find some decent riding.  On the scale of 1-10 most trails are around a 6.5.

Get out and enjoy the trails and be sure to patronize your local clubs by attending their events throughout the winter months.  While you are out enjoying the trails we want to remind you to respect the landowners and stay on the marked trails and please stay off all bodies of water."
